Miro & Dali Poetic Visions Two Catalan Surrealists
The two most iconic Spanish Surrealists, Salvador Dali and Joan Miro, infused the Surrealist movement with a simultaneous rejection of simple narrative art and the visual articulation of avant-garde concepts. Both achieved worldwide fame while maintaining a Catalan identity. Miro was born in Barcelona in 1893 to a well-off family and studied art on the side until a nervous breakdown convinced himself and his family that we was better suited as an artist than a clerk. Dali was born 1904 in Figueras, Catalunya, convinced from the start of his own artistic genius.
