Our California fans with young art aficionados will want to mark their calendars for the upcoming “Stories in the Afternoon” event at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena.  On Sunday, April 29th the museum will delve into the work of Post-Impressionist painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in this family-friendly event.

During Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s short career as an artist, spanning only 20 years, he produced a powerful amount of work.  Toulouse-Lautrec created 737 paintings, 275 watercolors, 363 prints, 5,084 drawings, ceramic and stained glass work, as well as a number of undocumented works.  His collections show a clear influence by the Impressionist artists Manet and Degas and he often captured the colorful brilliance of the offbeat such as scenes from Parisian nightlife and the Moulin Rouge nightclub.

This event at the Norton Simon Museum will explore Toulouse-Lautrec’s painting At the Cirque Fernando, Rider on a White Horse and give participants the opportunity to decorate their own circus performer.
