Recently shown at the Cannes Film Festival, “Renoir” has been snapped up by Samuel Goldwyn Films. The film, by director Gilles Bourdos, brings to life the story of painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, his son, film director Jean Renoir, and Andree Heuschling, their young muse.
“Renoir” takes place in 1915 on the French Riviera. With Pierre-Auguste Renoir recently widowed and Jean Renoir home and wounded from World War I, 15 year old Andree Heuschling enters as a powerful muse to both artist and budding filmmaker.
Goldwyn’s senior vice president of acquisitions, Peter Goldwyn, commented on the acquisition, “Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s work speaks for itself – he is one of the most gifted painters the world has ever seen while his son Jean is one of the most important filmmakers of our time. We feel extremely fortunate to bring such indelible icons to life.”
Well-known Taiwanese cinematographer Mark Ping Bing Lee has received much praise for this work on “Renoir” and his ability to portray the influential environment of the Renoirs’ world.
“Renoir” plans to be released in the spring of 2013.
