Marc Chagall, Daphnis and Chloé: Lamon’s and Dryas’s Dreams, 1961

Daphnis and Chloe is a story from the 3rd century AD, written by poet, Longus. It tells the tale of a shepherd boy and girl who fall passionately in love–but encounter great trials and tribulations due to their tendencies to act, as the author says, even more awkwardly “than rams and ewes.”
