Joan Miró, Le Lézard aux Plumes d’Or, 1967
Artist: Joan Miró, 1893-1983
Title: Le Lézard aux Plumes d'Or
Medium: Color lithograph on Japon paper
Description: A rare proof from the portfolio “Le Lézard aux Plumes d'Or,” with text and imagery by Miró. Published by Broder, Paris. Printed by Mourlot, Paris. In 1967, Miró produced color lithographs to accompany his poem “Le Lézard aux Plumes d'Or.” Shortly after the printing of the plates, the artist and his publisher, Louis Broder, noticed that an error in the manufacturing of the paper had caused certain alterations in the colors. They decided not to accept the printing and to destroy it, later producing a new edition of the same compositions, which occurred in 1971 and has the same title. However, before doing this, they used the original zinc plates to create a small edition of 30 proofs on parchment and 50 proofs on Japon paper, for each single page plate. The current work is from these efforts and is extremely rare.
