Description: A rare trial proof before the edition of 50. Printed by Imprimerie Arnéra and published by Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris. Annotated “No 14 Tirage bleu avec WONDER PASTE Décembre 58.” Proof recorded by Picasso expert Brigitte Baer. In this process, if Picasso did not wait for the ink to dry before applying the next color plate, the results would become muddied and illegible. His printer Arnéra discovered a new ingredient which allowed the colors to retain their original values, to remain opaque and to “cover” the underlying previous color, like a sort of film. This magical component is (or was) called “wonder paste.” With the help of this substance, Picasso was able to print “Portrait de Jeune Fille, d'après Cranach le Jeune. II” with exceptional results.
