Artist: Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn, 1606-1669
Title: The Artist Drawing from the Model
Date: 1639
Medium: Etching and drypoint on paper
Description: Possible 17th/early 18th century impression, with the fine contrasting still showing well. A good impression of White and Boon's second and final state, trimmed on or just within the platemark. New Hollstein's third state (of IV) with the transition of the shaded area into the virtually blank strip in the upper left corner, immediately under the upper margin, previously not clearly defined, now delineated by a sharp line and new cross-hatching. With an unidentified collector's mark, HR in circle, (not in Lugt). This HR mark in a circle is very close to the famous German collector Hans Rinn (see L.4048 and L.4049).
